New Orleans

High Hat Cafe

“Cooked to a perfect medium rare with clear, greasy juices that dampen the bottom of the bun quickly. There is little crisp to the patty, however. The roll is the weakest link, coming in as a rather pedestrian sesame seed affair. It does not get in the way of the fresh, deep-green romaine lettuce and juicy greenhouse tomatoes that adorn the burger. Some tangy, house pickles add a touch of sharpness. One cannot get around the fact that this burger lives and dies on the copious mound of hand-made pimento cheese that is melted across the top of the burger.”

  High Hat Burger

  • 100% Angus beef patty
  • Cooked pub style (medium rare)
  • Scantly seasoned beef, little caramelization
  • Thick wad of melty pimento cheese (hand made)
  • Softish, barely toasted sesame seed bun
  • Crisp Romaine lettuce
  • Yellow onion slices
  • Greenhouse tomatoes
  • House-made pickles
  • Mayonnaise on the top of bun

This burger is a very solid sum of a few moving parts. The meat is high quality Angus. Cooked to a perfect medium rare with clear, greasy juices that dampen the bottom of the bun quickly. One cannot get around the fact that this burger lives and dies on the copious mound of hand-made pimento cheese that is melted across the top of the burger. For this reviewer, it partners well with the total package. Each bite is flavor-packed. This is a cheeseburger that lives up to the “cheese” half of its title.

  Hand-Cut Fries

  • Hand-Cut Potato
  • Dirty blonde outside
  • Crispy
  • Soft well fried interior
  • Seasoned with salt and pepper

These are how I like my fries. Simple and well done. Nicely salted and peppered, with that twice fried crisp and feathery interior. A very nice complement to any burger.

  Diet Coke

  • Served in pint glass
  • Boku Ice
  • Slightly gassy flavor
  • Over-carbonated

Another restaurant where the mix is off on the soda fountain. This one has very light cola flavor, and too much carbonation.
